The Challenge

The Dovecote at Euan´s Yard, Thealby, is Grade II Listed building that has been converted into a family home. The scheme of the conversion calls for a large open plan ground floor that will be heated by wet underfloor heating. Because of the buildings Listed status we were restricted as to the amount of insulation that could be applied to the walls of the structure. To comply with Building Regulations and to achieve an affordably heated house, it was necessary to identify, and install an ecological and sustainable heat source.

The Solution

We investigated several forms of “green heat” solutions from ground source heat, to photovoltaic, to wood pellet, to air exchange and found them all to be both invasive in terms of landscaping, remodelling, etc and an initially terrifically high cost to install. The Disenco HomePowerPlant (HPP) in contrast represented a moderate implementation, cost combined, with an easy to understand return of investment calculation. With constant heating required for 9 months of the year means that our electricity bill will be fantastically reduced. Moderate cost, with transparent and rapid payback has made the Disenco mCHP our system of choice.
